On this 8-day excursion, you will visit Hanoi’s main cultural attractions, including the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, his House on Stilts, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Fine Arts Museum and the Temple of Literature. You will also visit Sapa, a mountain village near the Chinese border.
There, you will visit local markets where hill tribe minorities (including Hmong, Red Dao, Tay , Xa Pho and Giay) trade their goods. You’ll see amazing waterfalls and drive through mountain valleys before going on to your next stop at Halong Bay. Aboard your junk boat, you will cruise the waterways where thousands of limestone rock sculptures jut dramatically from the sea and numerous grottoes have created an ephemeral, fantastic landscape
Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi (D)
Upon arrival at Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel. After a short relaxation period you will have a leisurely cyclo ride wandering around the Hanoi Old Quarter before continuing to an Indian restaurant for dinner. Stay overnight in Hanoi.
Day 2: Hanoi (B/L/D)
Today you have a full day to explore the city of Hanoi including the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, his House on Stilts, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Fine Arts Museum and the Temple of Literature. You can choose an Indian restaurant for lunch or can taste “Pho”, one of the Vietnamese world-wide famous dishes and have a short break before continuing your day with a visit to the Vietnam Military museum. Then you will have time to take a stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake, enjoy people-watching at one of the numerous stylish cafes or shop for modern art in the city's myriad galleries. You will enjoy a traditional water puppet performance followed by a dinner at an Indian restaurant. You will stay overnight in Hanoi.
Day 3. Hanoi – Hoa Lu – Lao Cai for Sapa (B/L/D)
In the morning you leave Hanoi and head south for a 2hour drive along Highway 1. You spend one hour visiting the Dinh and Le sanctuaries and then move on to Tam Coc for a 2hour boat trip along the Boi River. Along the way you will visit caves and ancient temples. After lunch, visit Thai Vi Temple before making your way back to your hotel in Hanoi for a short relaxation before a dinner at an Indian restaurant.
Transfer to Hanoi station for a night train to Lao Cai. Stay overnight on train.
Day 4. Lao Cai – Sapa (B/L/D)
You will arrive in Lao Cai Station at around 6:30 am, and you will meet your driver for transfer to Sapa. It will take approximately 2 hours to reach the town, where a delicious breakfast will be awaiting you. Then, you will have free time in the morning to stroll around town or enjoy the comfort of your hotel. In the afternoon you will have a short trek to Cat Cat village, home of black H'mong people. You will have dinner at a local restaurant and stay overnight in Sapa.
Day 5. Sapa – Lao Cai (B/L/D)
Following breakfast, you will explore Sapa market and then set out on our 3-4 hour trek that will take you along buffalo paths and trails and through several hill tribe villages of Lao Chai and Tavan. These are home to H'mong and Dzay people and offer a spectacular walk through the areas stunning scenery, inhabited by some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. You will also be treated to a picnic lunch on the way to Ta Van village. Rejoin your car for transfer back to Sapa town for a short break and enjoy dinner before going to Lao Cai station for a night train back to Hanoi. You will stay overnight on the train.
Day 6. Lao Cai – Sapa – Halong Bay (B/L/D)
You will arrive in Hanoi at approximately 05:00 am where you will be picked up and escorted to a local restaurant for breakfast. You’ll then leave Hanoi and head for Halong Bay via the Red River Delta. You will go for a cruise on the crystal waters, giving you the chance to take in the stunning scenery of this UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site. While on board, you will be served a sumptuous fresh, local seafood lunch. You will also have the chance to explore some of the limestone caves in the area.
Go back to harbor and transfer to your hotel for check in. You will stay overnight in Halong City.
Day 7. Halong Bay – Hanoi (B/L/D)
Late in the morning you will leave Halong and go back to Hanoi with a stop to visit one of the famous ceramic villages named Bat Trang along the way. After lunch at an Indian restaurant you will enjoy your free time to relax or do some shopping at the Hanoi Old Quarter.
Day 8. Departure (B)
There are no activities planned for your final day, so you can unwind and plan for the next leg of your journey or opt to take in even more of the city’s offerings before being escorted to the airport for your departure flight.
